Dashboard
also: monitoring dashboard · operations dashboard
A screen that summarizes live and historical data from devices or systems so people can see status, spot problems and act quickly.
A good hardware dashboard answers a specific person's questions: is everything running, what needs attention, what changed? For a field service team that might be units by status and active alarms; for a customer, energy use and savings; for engineering, failure trends by firmware version.
Design matters more than chart types: a clear status hierarchy, alarms that are actionable rather than noisy, consistent units and time zones, and drill-down from the whole fleet to a single device. Industrial interface guidance warns against screens cluttered with raw numbers and color that carries no meaning.
Where it bites: dashboards built on unreliable or poorly labeled data lose people's trust, and too many alerts train users to ignore them.
Founder takeaway
Design each dashboard around the decisions a specific user must make, and tune alarms until every one requires action.
